Tiantao
A Rising Star in Weightlifting

Explore the inspiring journey of Tiantao, a rising star in the world of weightlifting. From his humble beginnings to national prominence, Tiantao's story is a testament to talent and determination.

Tiantao's remarkable journey in the world of weightlifting began at the tender age of ten in Changyang, China. His passion for the sport ignited early, catching the attention of national selectors in no time.

At just 17 years old, Tiantao soared to national prominence by clinching the 77 kg category title at the Chinese Intercity Games in October 2011. While this achievement wasn't on the international stage, his lifts far surpassed the official Youth World Records, leaving no doubt about his extraordinary talent. Notably, his jerk of 205 kg even outshone the Junior World Record by a remarkable 3 kg.

Tiantao's journey faced a challenging turn at the April 2012 National Championships. Competing to secure a spot in the prestigious London Olympic Games, he demonstrated his prowess with a total lift of 365 kg. However, he faced stiff competition from Lu Haojie and Lu Xiaojun, securing the third spot and narrowly missing the national team selection. To add to the adversity, during his second jerk attempt with 211 kg, he sustained an elbow injury that required extensive rehabilitation throughout the year.

In 2013, he made a strategic move to the 85 kg weight class. His resilience and determination shone as he claimed the bronze medal at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in January. However, the March National Championships presented new challenges as he triumphed in the snatch with 165 kg but had to bow out early due to another injury after only one successful jerk. Later that year, in September, Tiantao showcased his skill at the prestigious Chinese National Games, securing third place with just two successful attempts. Despite the hurdles, he was selected to represent China at the 2013 World Championships. Unfortunately, he was forced to withdraw from the competition after the snatch portion, demonstrating the grit required to succeed in the demanding world of weightlifting.
